If you decide to take the examination personally in Trieste, admission to the Ph.D courses takes place through a selection based on a written and/or oral examination evaluated together with the academic and scientific qualifications presented by each candidate,  and at least one letter of reference. The examination for each Ph.D. is held by the academic Sector in charge of each program. Thus the dates for examinations and type of exam depend explicitly on each Sector. Usually there are two selection exams per year: Spring and Autumn.

EU citizens

EU students must be selected by means of an entrance examination held personally at SISSA. Entrance exams are based on a written and/or oral examination evaluated together with the academic and scientific qualifications presented by each candidate, and at least one letter of reference. Usually there are one or two selection exams per year: Spring or Spring/Summer. Here you can find announcements and the link to the online procedure to participate in the entrance exams.

Non-EU citizens

Non EU candidates can either present the entrance exam personally in Trieste or can apply through the preselection admission procedure (see Preselection Application for Non European Candidates).
