The ICTP (International Centre for Theoretical physics) is an important institution for studies and researches in physics located in Trieste. It was founded in 1964 by Abdus Salam and it operates under a tripartite agreement among the Italian Government and two United Nations Agencies, UNESCO and IAEA.
SISSA enjoys a long and fruitful collaboration with ICTP since the very beginning of its activity, when the two institutions shared neighboring venues in Miramare Campus. This close relationship keeps going on even after SISSA relocation, as many research groups are formed and coordinated by members of both centers, as well as many scientific activities.
In the ICTP website you can find this agenda, containing the yearly, weekly and daily schedule of activities.
Location
ICTP is located in Grignano, few kilometers away from the center of Trieste and very close to the Castle of Miramare. It can be reached with bus number 36 (or bus number 6 in summer) from Trieste rail station (check this page for the bus schedule and the exact route). A special shuttle service also connects SISSA campus with the ICTP, as shown here.

ICTP Facilities
Some of the ICTP facilities offer services which can be useful also for SISSA students:
- Adriatico cafeteria: The cafeteria located in Adriatico Guest House serves lunches and dinners to ICTP staff and visitors. SISSA students can also use it, and can get the usual discount by showing the ERDISU card to the staff.
- ICTP cafetria: The same holds also for ICTP cafeteria, located in the right sector of ICTP Main Building
- ICTP library: Students of SISSA also enjoy the possibility to apply for the use of ICTP library (ICTP right wing, first floor); to apply you are asked to fill and return this form to the ICTP library staff.
