SPID
Sistema Pubblico d’Identità Digitale is the unified access system to the online services of the Italian public administration. Citizens and companies can access these services through a unique digital identity. This system was introduced to cope with the ever increasing number of web services, in order to have a single account instead of different credentials. The system, in principle, should be integrable at European level.
Italian ID card holders
In order to get your credentials, you need to choose a service provider: some of them have a free subscription, some other have a fee to pay at the moment of the recognition. The insertion of the data generally requires 10 to 15 minutes. Then you will have to set an appointment (physical or virtual) to validate the registration. We suggest to subscribe to the National Post Service (Poste Italiane) as a provider. You can register here.
Also people coming from a country not belonging to EU can obtain their SPID credentials. However they must already have
- the Health National Service hard card (Servizio Sanitario Nazionale or SSN in italiano)
- an Italian document. In order to have an Italian ID card you NEED to appoint your Residence in Italy!

IMPORTANT: you MUST hold a Codice fiscale hard card or a Health Insurance (tessera sanitaria) hard card
Inforcert provider allow you to ask for a SPID without an Italian ID card.
Procedure (form)
From the InfoCert website, select the options "InfoCert ID Personale" and then "Online con Video Riconoscimento", if you want to have an online interview or "presso un infocert point", if you want to have an "in person meeting".
Online interview costs 36 € and in person meeting costs 12€ (these are the costs in November 2022).
Set up an account and enter all your details: name, address, phone number, tessera sanitaria (health card), Codice fiscale (Italian fiscal code), passport, etc.
Pay attention to the following:
1. Address field is divided into three parts: "Tipologia indirizzo", "Indirizzo", and "Numero civico". "Tipologia indirizzo" requires something like "Via", "Piazza", "Corso", "Strada", etc. "Indirizzo" requires the name of the street, square, avenue, etc.; "Numero Civico" the number.
2. In passport details, there is the field "Ente di rilascio" (Institution that issued your passport), and there are various options, like Consulate, Embassy, etc. If you do not find the right one for you, please select "altre" (other ones) and type the proper one for your case.
3. Remember to upload an image of your passport.
Once the process is completed, the system gives some documents to download, including a paper form which asks for name, address, signature, etc. Do not fill out this form, because it is not necessary. The personnel will do for you during the interview.
Webcam interview
They are available seven days a week. You will wait for few minutes for the operator and the whole process will take about 10 minutes. The personnel speaks English, so the process is really straight-forward. During the interview, the codice fiscale and passport are required and you have to show them to the camera. You will have to confirm your phone number, too.
It is very important you have a hard (plastic) card of codice fiscale or tessera sanitaria (health card). Usually they accept also an expired tessera sanitaria.
It is possible that at the end of the interview, the personnel will suddenly disappear without saying nothing (nor goodbye). Please continue to wait (a few minutes) till the system will notify that the process is completed. Then the system will give you the option to download the completed form, as a receipt.
Your will receive an e-mail of the confirmation that your SPID is active up to 36 hours later (over the weekend). Your SPID will expire in 2 years but it very probably that a free automatic renewal is set.
The cost for the interview is €36 (including IVA). The SPID itself is free. You can pay by credit/debit card or by bank transfer. Second option will take the process longer because they will wait till money will be transfered to their bank account.
In person meeting
Go to tabaccheria with Mooney facility. There is one at piazza Oberdan and one near Ospedale maggiore for verification of documents. This costs 12€.
Required Documents
To request Inforcert SPID it is necessary to show an ID document and a Codice fiscale document among those listed below:

• Valid (not expired) Plastic Health Card
• Codice fiscale green hard card (Agenzia delle Entrate stopped providing it because the plastic health card replaced it)
• A recent (less than 1-year-old) paper certificate with release of Codice Fiscale issued by Agenzia delle Entrate (Students' Secretariat can ask for it)
