Fellowship increase

As provided in the Didactic Regulation of the SISSA PhD Courses – Art. 12: “In the case of study and research periods abroad, after the authorization of the Coordinator of the PhD course, the PhD Council (or, in its absence, the Board of the Area), may decide to increase the amount of the fellowship by 50% for continuous missions abroad of more-than-14 days. The contribution is paid up to 12 months maximum. This period may be extended up to a maximum of 18 months for doctorates in co-partnership with foreign institutions”.

The Increase of the salary +50% (or +70% for very expensive countries – see Resolution of the Board of Directors dated 15.03.2022) is an additional contribution to the PhD Fellowship that is NOT paid monthly, but rather in two or three installments depending on the duration of the mission itself.

The calculation of the total amount is based on the days of the duration of the mission itself. All months are considered like 30-days-long, as well as PhD Fellowships.

In the case of the +50% scholarship increase, the daily amount is: 22,56€

In the case of the +70% scholarship increase, the daily amount is: 31,58€

- If the mission is shorter than 2 months, the payment is done in two tranches:

              1. tranche equal to 80% of the total
              2. tranche equal to 20% of the total

- If the mission is longer than 2 months, the payment is done in three tranches:

             1. tranche equal to 40% of the total
             2. tranche equal to 40% of the total
             3. tranche equal to 20% of the total

• The first installment is paid at mission opening.

              The opening of the mission is attested by the opening model M1.

Please note, if the mission starts after 14/15 of the current month, the first installment will most likely be paid in the following month. The same, if the mission opening notice arrives too late.

i.e.: if the mission starts on 22th June, the installment will not be paid in June, but in July.

• The second installment (in case of missions longer than 2 months) is paid in the middle of the mission.

• The last installment is paid when the mission is over.

Please note: it is very important that student sends the form to close the mission as soon as possible. Only after receiving this document, which contains the final dates of the mission, the recalculation of installments and final settlement can be made.
